I Know What to Eat… So Why Can't I Lose Weight?!

The real reasons women struggle with cravings, emotional eating & consistency β€” with Carrie O'Boyle, Registered Dietitian

You know what to eat. You've read the books, saved the recipes, followed the experts, and probably started over on Monday more times than you'd like to admit.

So why the hell is losing weight still so hard?!

Here's the thing: knowing what to eat and actually being able to follow through are two very different things.

In this episode of The Strong, Sweaty & Slightly Inappropriate Podcast, I'm joined by Carrie O'Boyle, Registered Dietitian, who's been helping people improve their nutrition since 1998.

And even with all that experience, Carrie found herself struggling with weight gain as she approached midlife. The things that used to work weren't working anymore.

Sound familiar?

We're getting into the stuff that doesn't always make it onto your perfectly curated meal plan: stress, exhaustion, emotional eating, hormonal changes, food guilt, and the fact that women are often taking care of every damn person in the house except themselves.

Because sometimes the missing piece isn't another diet.

It's figuring out what keeps getting in the way of taking care of YOU.

🎧 In This Episode, We Talk About:

  • Why knowing what to eat doesn't automatically translate into weight loss.

  • Emotional eating, mindless snacking, and why nighttime cravings aren't always about hunger.

  • How chronic stress, poor sleep, and decision fatigue affect your ability to stay consistent.

  • Why women over 40 may struggle with strategies that worked when they were younger.

  • Perimenopause, menopause, and the bigger picture behind midlife weight changes.

  • Why putting everyone else first can mean putting your own health last.

  • The dreaded "I'll start again Monday" mentality.

  • Why relying on willpower alone isn't a sustainable strategy.

  • How routines and simplifying decisions can make healthy habits easier.

  • Fasting, calorie tracking, meal structure, and why there isn't one perfect approach for everyone.

  • Food freedom and reducing the constant mental chatter about what you should or shouldn't eat.

  • Why slowing down, checking in with yourself, and recognizing what's already going well matters.

  • How the habits you model can influence your children, even when you think they're not paying attention.

And yes, we discuss why telling a woman to "just eat less and move more" is missing a whole lot of the freaking picture.

πŸ‘‹ Meet Carrie O'Boyle

Carrie O'Boyle is a Registered Dietitian with decades of experience helping people improve their nutrition and health.

As she approached midlife, Carrie experienced firsthand the frustration of weight gain despite doing the things that had always worked for her.

That experience changed how she approached her work.

Today, she focuses on helping women navigate midlife weight struggles by looking beyond food alone, including daily routines, stress, sleep, mindset, and the behaviors that make lasting change possible.

Her approach emphasizes individualized nutrition, consistency, and helping women feel more in control of their health without constantly obsessing over food.

β˜• Coffee & Chaos Tip of the Week

Stop trying to overhaul your entire freaking life by Monday.

Seriously.

If you're exhausted, overwhelmed, sleeping five hours a night, and eating whatever you can find while standing at the kitchen counter, another restrictive meal plan probably isn't the first thing you need.

Start by looking at your actual life.

What's working? What's not? Where could you make ONE change that would make tomorrow a little easier?

Maybe it's preparing breakfast the night before.

Maybe it's going to bed earlier.

Maybe it's recognizing that the handful of snacks you grab every time you're stressed isn't actually solving the stress.

You don't need to do everything perfectly. You need to start making changes you can actually live with.

And for the love of all things holy, stop waiting for Monday.
